Target Audience School and system leaders responsible for shaping the strategic direction of teaching, learning and administration within K-12 Catholic Education. Classroom teachers who are interested in the rapidly evolving conversation about AI and the opportunities and challenges that schools, systems and policy makers around the world are considering. “If you don’t have a strategy, you’re part of someone else’s strategy.” (Alvin Eugene Toffler) Why? The “Age of AI” has dawned and is off and running! Within the education sector the advent of large language models and cognitive robots such as ChatGPT has sparked the interest of teachers, students and administrators. The rapid integration of AI tools more broadly within enterprise IT systems offers the prospect of tremendous benefits but also introduces new risks and challenges. It is said that AI will be the most significant disruption to occur in a century. Industry research predicts that with the integration of AI functions 25% of activities in education instruction and over 35% of administrative processes will be in some way automated. The EdSAFE AI Alliance is an international non aligned, not-for-profit advocacy group specifically constituted to raise and address the unique challenges AI present in Education. Dan Ingvarson has a long career in technological innovation and has been at the vanguard of the integration of technology within the education sector since well before the birth of the Internet. He has been a Software Developer, Company Founder, Solutions Architect, Integration Specialist, Consultant and Policy Advisor. He is well known for his contribution to the provision of safe Internet access and online learning tools for school students and the development of the National School Interoperability Program (NSIP) run by Education Services Australia. As Senior Technical Advisor to the EdSAFE AI Alliance, Dan has recently engaged with senior executives from Education systems across the globe as they navigate their way forward in responding to AI.
